May I Help You?

One of the most sensitive topics in financial services from both an industry and a consumer point of view is the issue of outsourcing jobs overseas.

The matter is a highly touchy subject both politically and commercially and the power of public opinion and the potential for brand damage has in some instances forced large institutions to reconsider the extent of such plans.

The following video is an excerpt from the controversial spoof UK cartoon show, Monkey Dust – arguably one of the more twisted terrestrial television series of the past few years.

It makes South Park look like Play School.

Anyhow burningpants has run the video because it covers the issue of outsourcing financial customer service roles quite aptly – albeit it in a slightly dark way.

The cartoon involves a customer of the Bath and Gloucester Building Society trying to contact her personal banker, Nigel, in order to make a complaint about the level of service she’s been receiving.

But ends up being transferred to a string of people operating in an Indian call centre, and making poor attempts at giving the impression they’re actually based more locally.

The gag is not particularly politically correct, so we advise anyone who is particularly sensitive to perhaps avoid clicking on the ‘play’ icon.
